Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) released at least 6,000 stocks of mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis) in Pangasinan city to help in fighting dengue on Thursday.
Mayor Brian Lim, along with Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran (students who will serve in the government) and chief of BFAR Dagupan Westly Rosario joined in releasing the mosquito fish at Barangay Pogo Grande.
Aside from there, BFAR also released some of the fish to schools in Mangaldan, San Fabian and Sta. Barbara in Pangasinan.
Rosario said BFAR has been releasing mosquito fish in Pangasinan since 2012 and he is confident that the fishes will help reduce the number of dengue cases in the city.
Pangasinan Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported that the province had 2,753 dengue cased from January 1 to the first week of August this year, which is 29 percent lower than the 3,877 cases during the same period from last year.
