Meet Roman McConn, a seven-year old kid who has rescued more than 1,300 dogs. Earlier this year, this incredible boy has been awarded 2018’s Kid of the Year by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
“I think it’s very important for the dogs I meet that I give them the best chance at finding the right home that they need,” McConn told InsideEdition.com in an interview. “I think a lot of other kids should be doing what I’m doing.”
McConn began saving dogs when he was just three years old, when he requested his friends and family to donate money to his favorite rescue instead, than give him gifts for his 4th birthday.
Since then, McConn founded Project Freedom Ride, which is an organization that rescues dogs from shelters in Texas and finds them a new home with a loving family.
“The first dog I do remember was in Washington,” Roman said on the interview. “His name was Sullivan and we called him Sully for short, but he was the sweetest. He was a big American bulldog. My mom said he was about the size of a small horse because he was huge.”
Jennifer McConn, his mom, has been helping and encouraging him since the beginning of his rescue journey. She’s often the person who posts their rescues on Facebook so that people could see and possibly adopt the poor homeless dogs.
