The Department of Health (DOH) reported 33 confirmed cases of coronavirus, but by Wednesday afternoon, announced 16 more. 46 of the confirmed cases were admitted to hospitals, two were discharged, and one has died.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of public health emergency in the country on March 9 under the request of DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III.

Because of this, several organizations and establishments had chosen not to pursue their upcoming public events and gatherings due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Reptile X, one of the biggest reptile events in the country, decided not to push through their fifth year event at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in recommendation of Paranaque local government unit.

“Reptile X 5 will be postponed until further announcement. This is for our safety as well as our guests and event-goers,” the group stated on their Facebook page announcement. “Rest assured that Reptile X 5 will push-thru as soon as the virus is contained or no longer a threat to the public. Safety is our main priority.”

On the other hand, the Pet Summit Philippines, organized by Paws & Tails Event Concepts and Management, also moved the biggest Pet Trade Show in the country on October 3 and 4 just in time for the World Animal Day celebration at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

It was supposed to be this April 4 & 5, but due to the heightened alert status of the virus and public health emergency declaration, the organizers decided against it.

“We urge everyone to continue praying for this global contagion to be over soon,” the event organizers stated.

Other pet organizations like the Doodles Paw Couture also cancelled Eco Runway Year 3 event at SM City Taytay Pet Park scheduled on March 28.

“The entire pawmily’s health and welfare is our utmost priority. Be safe everyone and everyfur. Thank you for your understanding,” posted the group on their Facebook page.

If you happen to have a scheduled event to attend to, better check in with the organizers first.
