Pacman has become a household name in the Philippines. Not only is it the nickname of professional Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, but it is also what he named his Jack Russell Terrier, his loyal companion.

Sadly, the 14-year-old dog died tragically in an accident in General Santos City, Saturday afternoon, June 27.

Pacman, who served as Pacquiao’s sidekick and running mate during his training, was accidentally ran over by a car driven by David Sisson, a close friend of Pacquiao.

Sisson said he accidentally ran over the dog as it ran under his Mazda sedan when Pacquiao’s security people were trying to clear up the garage.

“I didn’t even see him and the boss’ bodyguards said he came out of nowhere and it was too late,” Sisson said to the Manila Bulletin. He added that they immediately brought the dog to the veterinary clinic, but the veterinarian said the injuries were to severe for the senior dog.

“If he was like seven years, he could have made it, according to the vet,” Sisson said, who quickly told Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee about the incident. “They understood and accepted what happened. It was a freak accident.”

Pacman had been a loyal companion to Pacquiao. He trained with his fur-parent in Manila, Baguio City, General Santos, and even in the United States. But since Pacman was already getting old, Pacquiao decided not to push his dog anymore in the last few years.

Pacman was Team Pacquiao’s official mascot in 2006 when the boxer was getting ready for his third fight with Erik Morales in Las Vegas.

The Pacquiao family buried him inside their mansion.
