A couple in Tondo, Manila have rescued more than 15 dogs and 70 cats they found abandoned on the streets and continues to do so even amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Luzviminda Anne Morales and her husband Ritchelle are the rescuers behind the Animal Rescue PH.

“Pinapakain namin po sila, pinapaliguan, syempre inaalagaan ng maayos, binibigyan ng vitamins tapos ‘yung iba pinapagamot namin ‘yung may sakit,” Luzwiminda told 24 Oras.

The couple takes care of the animals until someone adopted them. If the animals were not adopted, they can stay at the couple’s home and taken cared for.

But when the pandemic hit, the couple had no other choice but to stop rescuing animals.

“Pagkain medyo limitado kasi nga kapos din sa funds,” Luzviminda added. “Kahit mahirap lang kami lagi po sila na nandyan. ‘Di po nila kami pinagpapalit.”

GMA News reported that the couple is now selling clothes and face masks online to earn a living. Construction of their animal shelter is ongoing in San Miguel, Bulacan.
