Park rangers are sharing their stunning selfies with gorillas in their Facebook page, The Elite AntiPoaching Unites and Combat Trackers.
Park ranger Mathieu Shamavu shared his selfie with female gorillas Ndakazi and Ndeze. It had since garnered more than 20,000 shares since it was uploaded in April. One gorilla stands casually showing her side profile on the camera, while the other leans slightly forward behind Mathieu in an effort to make it into the frame.
“Those gorilla gals are always acting cheeky so this was the perfect shot of their true personalities!” Virunga National Park wrote in an Instagram post.
According to local reports. the photo was taken at the park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the two gorillas have been living since their mother was killed in 2007.
The park is the only facility for orphaned mountain gorillas that are separated from their family due to poaching. It has also been considered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Over 600 rangers have gone through an intense training process that takes six months to complete to successfully help in the anti-poaching efforts in the country.
