Get inspired with the Flowerhorn enthusiasts and meet a lot of Flowerhorns in the Let’s get it on event.

The recent “Let’s Get It On!” flowerhorn show was held at Robinsons Mall, General Santos City, organized by Team Unity Gensan. There were thirty-four entries from flowerhorn enthusiasts from as far as Iloilo, Davao City, and Digos City.

Among the categories where prizes were at stake were Pre-Juvy, Juvy, Small, Medium, and Large. Special categories were also opened for freemarking and freehead and kamfa; other awards included Best in Pearl, Best in Color, Best in Kok, and Best Team.

Though the show was the organizers’ first, there was massive support from local hobbyists. Participants received free T-shirts, fish food certificates, and fry for every entry. Judges included Joseph Angelo Toquillo (r-12 “Fishycian”) from Cotabato, Cheng Castaneda from Davao City, and Vincent Apiaz from Kidapawan City. The judges and organizers also gave out special awards.

The entry by the Matillosa Brothers emerged as the Medium category and Best in Show winner. The Best Team award was given to the Davao Aquarist Society with their seven entries. Owners of the champion entries for each category received trophies and quality flowerhorn fry.

Organization of the event was spearheaded by John Mark Torres, owner of Mackenzie Aquatic Petshop. Sponsors included Animal Scene Magazine, Senator Manny Paquiao, Bodega Flowerhorn and Bodegamix, Salem, Okiko Philippines atbp., JVS Audio, and Golden Kingpin. (Photos courtesy of the organizers)
