After Typhoon Carina brought about massive floods in Metro Manila and surrounding areas, netizens shared videos of San Juan City’s pound where animals were left to drown in their cages.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) released a statement condemning the untimely death of impounded animals in the pound. They expressed outrage about how there was no personnel to free the animals during the flood.

PAWS added that “[t]he animals were left behind like pieces of furniture.”

PAWS also called for accountability from the pound personnel and city officials, emphasizing the need for the proper treatment of impounded animals in compliance to the Animal Welfare Act.
