In Brighton’s Waitrose in London, vegan activists have formed a human chain that blocked the meat isle in a supermarket to stop people from buying meat – especially the Christmas turkeys.
The group, Direct Action Everywhere (DxE), walked into the supermarket and held placards that said, “It’s not food, it’s violence.”
Mirror.co.uk has also reported that the activists prevented shoppers from buying any packs of steak, chicken, turkey or any other meats at the supermarket.
“This Christmas time, you might be worried about what presents to buy and how to organize family get togethers, but the animals are facing carnage. Around ten million turkeys are slaughtered this time of year so they can end up on your Christmas table in the United Kingdom,” said one protester.
Mirror added that the activist also talked about the distress transporting animals in loaded trucks caused to animals.
Eventually, police were called to the scene and asked the protesters to leave.
However, the group was persistent and decided to do their protest outside the supermarket instead, shouting “What do we want? Animal liberation. When do we want it? Now!”
DxE is known for their grand showcase of support to animal rights, which made headlines last month in London after they stormed a steakhouse and played the sound of animals being slaughtered.
