More than a dozen dogs have been rescued during an early morning operation at Barangay Quilo Quilo in Padre Garcia, Batangas last Friday, February 1.
21 live dogs, who were found crammed inside a sidecar with their mouths shut with ropes, have been rescued, while 18 dog carcasses were recovered by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Animal welfare group Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) tipped CIDG Batangas about the illegal dog meat trade in the area.
Four suspects were arrested and will be charged with the violation of the Republic Act 10631 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
A minor was also taken during the operation and will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The dogs rescued will be turned over to AKF.
