China Merchants New Energy Group, one of the country’s largest clean energy operators, built a 248-acre solar power plant that is shaped like a giant panda in Datong, China two years ago.
The first phase of the solar farm, which includes one 50-megawatt plant, has been delivering power in northwestern China.
In an effort to build a sustainable energy development, China Merchants Energy Group collaborated with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to create the Panda Power Plant a reality and to raise awareness on clean energy among young people in China.
The solar power plant hopefully continues to eliminate about 1 million tons of coal burned in the next 25 years, which will then reduce carbon emission by 2.74 million tons.
This just became the first of the 100 planned panda-shaped solar plants in China and across Asia in the following years.
