Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso reiterates that he will not sell the Manila Zoo and continues to vow the redevelopment of its infrastructure.
The zoo was closed late January this year after Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) secretary Roy Cimatu called out the zoo’s lack of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP), which causes it to become a major pollutant of Manila Bay.
Domagoso said the city of Manila will fund the development of the zoo’s sewage treatment plan.
“It has to be the city of Manila. We have to build it, because I will not disobey Department of Environment and Natural Resources rules. We have to build it,” he said.
The mayor met with an architecture graduate from the University of Santo Tomas, who made a thesis proposal on the development of the zoo.
Domagoso claimed it will indeed take a long time to redevelop the zoo, so he called on the public to help him with the task.
