A pit bull named Daenerys was found abandoned in an apartment in Phoenix, AZ. She weighed only 24 lbs, compared to a healthy female pit bull who should at least weigh 37 or more.

Tara, a foster care worker, took Daenerys to her home and immediately gave the dog all the care, love and support she needed. According to local reports, she might have been left to starve and die. With no food or water, she was not able to stand up on her own for five days.

With the care Tara gave her, Daenerys slowly gained 1 to 2 pounds a day, and now have the energy to stand up and walk on her own.

Tara drove Daenerys from Arizona to Colorado to visit with her possible owner.

“Some horrible person left her to die. Our story began when her first video on the Dodo popped up on my Facebook feed. I had been looking to adopt a dog for several months, but there just wasn’t one that ‘spoke to me.’ The moment I saw her video, I knew she was the one,” Justine, Daenerys’ new hooman told Bored Panda.

“They wanted Miss D (Daenerys) to go to a home with no other pets and preferably older children. I had neither,” she added. “They drove her all the way from Arizona to Colorado! [I] was instantly in love with this dog.”

Now, Miss D is having the time of her life with her fur-ever family!

“While I may have adopted her, she is the one who has rescued me. You see, I just got out of a marriage to a man who was an alcoholic and very destructive. I was shattered and was struggling with life. Miss D has given me a whole new life full of joy. She is the rescued rescuer,” she said.
