Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their home in California after it has been ravaged by blazing fires last week.

CNN reported that the death toll rose to 56 as of posting time – most of whom were senior citizens. But aside from them, animals also suffered from the deadly Camp Fire.

Daily Mail has reported that a number of helpless animals suffered incredible pain from their burns and injuries, while some pets and wild animals died after being trapped in their enclosures.

In case of emergency, make sure to have your own disaster kit at home at all times.

  • FOOD AND WATER – Your pets need to be hydrated all the time, especially during a wildfire. Bring water that can cover for at least five days and of course, some food. It might be easier to carry canned pet food with easy openers.
  • MEDICINES – Bring your pet/s’ medicines too and all their medical records with you. Store them in a flash drive or save it online so you can always have a back-up file.
  • TAGS – Make sure your animal companion is wearing his/her collar with your contact number and address in it so that they could be easily identified and returned to you in times of trouble. You just might as well consider microchipping to make it easier.
  • FIRST AID KIT – When an emergency arises, like the fire, it might take a while for some medics to check on your furry.
  • LEASHES/CARRIERS – Put your pets on a stable carrier and sturdy leash, so you can evacuate the place immediately without any problem.
