Japanese artist Akie Nakata decided to “rock” the art world by turning pebbles into beautiful works of art.
Known as Akie, she is a self-taught artist who loved to pick up stones when she was a kid. According to a report by My Modern Met, she chooses the stones that she believe have their own characters and brings them to life by painting life-like imitations of animals using acrylic paints.
It was in 2011 when she was casually walking along a riverbank and spotted an ordinary pebble that resembled the structure of a rabbit, thus the idea to paint animals came to life.
“Stones have their own intentions, and I consider my encounters with them as cues […] to go ahead and paint what I see on them,” she told My Modern Met.
One look at the pebbles and it would make you believe they were actually true. Her works are intricately done and very much-detailed as she works on them with utmost care.
“To me, completing a piece of work is not about how much detail I draw, but whether I feel the life in the stone,” she added.
