Leave it to animals to offer a simple solution in a timely manner to a complicated problem: A Beaver colony from the Brdy region built several dams in the Brdy protected landscape area ahead of the government’s scheduled plans.
According to the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, the Brdy protected landscape area planned a 30 million crown revitalization project, but seeking permits was an issue. Luckily, a Beaver colony went ahead and built dams in a drainage gully, saving costs.
Occasional hiccup
According to environmentalists, the Beavers’ rapid construction created wetlands beneficial to certain species, such as Stone Crayfishes and Frogs.
While Beavers generally aid in water retention, their activities can occasionally conflict with human needs, as demonstrated in the Orlickoústec region where they flooded fields and impacted infrastructure.
