It was late at night when Everett Hamlin decided to take his little goldfish out of its tank to take it to the bed with him and cuddle.
His mom, Tori, check in on her boy to say her good night when she noticed her son’s pet fish, Nemo, was gone from its tank. After searching everywhere, Tori unexpectedly saw him in her son’s hand.
Tori woke up her toddler and told him what happened, and the four-year old was devastated, because all he wanted was to pet his best friend.
“I was shocked at first, but then when he said he just wanted to pet it, I was thinking, oh my god, that’s so sad. I didn’t think it was funny that he killed it,” Tori said, according to a LADbible report. “He had no understanding of what he was doing. Honestly, I’m surprised he caught it.”
Tori shared that she and her husband Corey bought the fish for their son when he was just a few months old. This led the two to become best friends.
“He loved the goldfish. It’s always been in his bedroom. He loved looking at it. He’s never tried to get it before it happened that night,” Tori added.
Ever since Tori posted what happened, more than a thousand people liked and commented on her post and several people gave an offer to buy Everett a new fish.
The little boy learned his lesson and said “We’ll have to get another fish and I won’t touch it. I’m only allowed to touch fish when I go fishing.”
Tori said sometimes, kids like her son have to make mistakes in order for them to learn, because it’s “part of parenting and growing up.”
