All Cat parents know how much their little fur babies love cardboard boxes. Refrigerator boxes, TV boxes, boxes for groceries — any cardboard box is a potential toy for any resourceful Cat.

Recognizing the feline propensity for engaging with their packaging, Samsung has begun making the boxes for some of its high-end TVs more
cat- and eco-friendly. Introducing the packaging in 2020, the boxes for some of Samsung’s luxury TVs include a dot- matrix design that allow customers to cut and dismantle the boxes for easy recycling, or to assemble various items of furniture out of them, including an end table, a magazine rack, shelves, or even a cat house.

The boxes come with a QR to allow customers to download the designs from their website.

WITH FELINES IN MIND

Naturally, the designs tend to display the Samsung logo front and center once assembled, which is a small price to pay for some humans caring for felines. Just remember that the boxes, once repurposed, can no longer be used to transport the appliances they once contained — probably a good idea, since those repurposed boxes will be either filled with cat fluff or shredded by Cat claws.

CREATIVE CAT PERSON WINS

Samsung even partnered with Dezeen, a British lifestyle magazine, to provide customers who make the most unique and practical designs out of their eco-packaging with a $20,000 cash prize. Their designs were used on succeeding versions of the boxes and the winner was announced in May 2020.

SHOP FOR A TV, MAKE YOUR CAT HAPPY!

Keep this in mind the next time you get a new flat screen for your home! You might as well pick up a nice little house for your feline friend while you’re at it.

Just don’t expect the cardboard to survive their claws for very long.
