Yoda, the cat with four ears, first gained popularity more than a decade ago. However, his pictures are once again resurfacing the internet as many find him uniquely beautiful.
His owners, husband and wife Valerie and Ted Rock, told The Telegraph that they picked Yoda from a litter of eight-week-old kittens that has been being handed around in a bar. They immediately took the cat to a nearby veterinarian to check whether he is in good health despite his two extra “flaps” behind his normal ears.
Luckily, the veterinarians gave them good news, noting that the feline is in good health and his two extra ears do not affect his hearing. It is actually attached to the base of his skull and they are believed to be a result of a genetic mutation.
“We began to realize that we had something very special,” 65-year old Valerie told The Telegraph in an interview. “As a result, he has been an indoor cat and has a chip installed in case he gets lost.”
They named the cat ‘Yoda’ after Star Wars character George Lucas’s own cat.
“People do a double take when they see him or his picture. It is great fun showing him off,” Valerie added.
Because of the attention Yoda has been getting from social media, his pur-rents began to be very concerned that he might be taken away from them.
“Yoda is so different that we were concerned that he might be catnapped,” Valerie said.
Cats with multiple ears are very rare, but not unheard of. A six-month old cat with two extra ears in Germany were first reported in 2004, and in the same year, a kitten born with seven ears was born in Russia.
