Met Gala, the annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, has officially kicked off in New York City.
But more than fashion, love, and controversies, the Met Gala has also been home for inspiration among pet designers and their animal companions to strut their stuff at their own “Mutt” Gala.
Two fashion icon Chihuahuas have been getting everyone’s attention for their Instagram-worthy and Oscar-winning outfits, designed by their fur-rent himself.
Anthony Rubio, a pet couturier, has been designing his Chihuahuas Bogie and Kimba’s clothes. He has also been taking the internet by storm for his perfectly-executed designs and fashion tastes, and became a trend among pet lovers for recreating Met Gala outfits, and designing his own take of the theme every year.
In 2017, Met Gala’s theme was all about honoring Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo. He then recreated Kawakubo’s iconic designs for Comme des Garcons.
“Rei Kawakubo is a visionary breaking all of the rules of conventional fashion and forcing one to question what is fashion and how it is or can be Interpteted,” Rubio wrote in his website.
Then, in 2018, Rubio wowed everyone with his own canine couture take on the theme: Heavenly bodies.
“As mentioned in the press about my much buzzed about interpretation of 2018 #MetGala theme #HeavenlyBodies for dogs where titles like Devine Dogs and Heavenly Doggies were used to identify my art work,” Rubio wrote on an Instagram post.
For this year, Met Gala’s theme is “Notes on Camp.”
The Garnette Report released photos of Bogie and Kimba. Bogie wore a coat made up of teddy bears, which was inspired by Jean Charles De Castelbajac, while Kimba had a comforter and pillows as part of her couture inspired by Viktor and Rolf.
