Kunxun, a clone of a police sniffer dog is currently three months old. He will undergo training in drug detection, crowd control, and searching evidence. Once he reached 10 months, he will become a fully fledged police dog, according to a report by the China Daily.
Training working dogs usually takes about five years and will cost 500,000 yuan, according to a report by the Yunnan Agricultural University.
This is why scientists in Southwest China’s Yunnan province have cloned what they called ‘Sherlock Holmes of police dogs’. It is a program that hopes to cut training times and costs of training dogs, reported state media.
Kunxun was the cloned dog by the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Company and the Yunnan Agricultural University support by the Ministry of Public Security.
Sinogene’s deputy general manager Zhao Jianping told the Global Times that they are currently achieving a volume production of cloned police dogs to reduce training times.
