Elephants, just like many intelligent animals, are very much capable of expressing their grief when they lose a loved one.

Just recently, the internet witnessed how former circus Elephant Magda mourned the death of Jenny, her performing partner of more than 20 years.

Sorrowful hugs

Taigan Safari Park showed a video of Magda displaying her grief; she lightly pushed her and tried to lift her. At the end of the video, she hugged Jenny. Jenny and Magda performed for the circus for 25 years and retired in 2021.

Cause of death

According to the park representatives, Jenny died at 54 years old due to bladder disease.

Elephants live longer in the wild

Elephants living in the wild generally live longer than those in captivity. According to National Geographic, the life expectancy of African Elephants in the wild is around 56 years, compared to African Elephants in zoos, they only live up to 17 years.

Meanwhile, Asian Elephants in the wild live up to 42 years, while those in captivity live up to 12 years.
