It is great news to hear that several animal shelters no longer have pets in their care thanks to generous adopters. However, animal shelter owner says those who adopted animals during this coronavirus pandemic should think carefully what life will be like when the pandemic is over.
“It’s really important to think about what your life might look like in a few months,” Laura Klink, public information manager for the Oregon Humane Society (OHS), told KomoNews.
Now, humans are forced to stay at home with their pets, but Klink asked what will happen after the lockdown is over and they have to go to their usual routines.
“Things won’t always be like this,” Klink said. “So when things go back to whatever that new normal is, kids going back to school, maybe people going back to their offices, you need to make sure that you are preparing your pet for that.”
Some animal shelters worry that those who have adopted might return the animals once quarantine is over. But OHS officials are optimistic that would not happen.
“So, we’re really not worried about animals coming back to us when this is all over,” Klink said. “I think, especially right now, the joy and the comfort that our pets bring to us, I feel like they are really going to hold a special place in people’s hearts once we get through this.”
