Clark Development Corp. (CDC) assured the public Clark ‘dog heroes’ cemetery will be restored back, after it has received a lot of backlash following reports of its demolition.
In a report by the Philippine Star, CDC public affairs and information chief Noel Tulabut clarified that the cemetery is only undergoing a “major facelift.”
This comes after many Filipinos expressed their dismay after earlier reports on the cemetery, wherein the tombstones were removed, ploughed and soil has been laid overnight.
The K-9 cemetery for dogs was originally established by Americans before they left the former US Air Force base.
A recognized group by the US Veterans of Foreign Wars also voiced out their concern on the demolition reports.
“The K-9 Cemetery at the former US Air Force Base is considered historical and cultural heritage of ours. The cemetery is a sacred ground. These dogs had military ranks, too, and served in the armed forces like regular servicemen,” Lt. Guy Indra Hilberto of the 26th US Cavalry Philippine Scouts Memorial Regiment said in a statement to the STAR. “They were also heroes that protected and saved lives in the past.”
But Tulabut assured that the tombstones, which were earlier removed, will be returned and that CDC’s tourism and promotions division is only improving the cemetery.
