Two people hiking in the Avers Valley of southwestern Switzerland were caught in an avalanche on Saturday. Luckily, they have been accompanied by their dogs who barked for help and saved them.
“Their dogs, who were not buried by the masses of snow, drew attention to themselves by barking loudly,” air ambulance service Rega said in a statement. “The dogs attracted the attention of a group of snow-shoers who were some distance away in the same valley but had not witnessed the avalanche.”
About 15-20 minutes after the avalanche, the group of rescuers were on the scene. One of the victims was buried entirely, while the other one’s hands was visible.
Rega said both of them was dug out safely, but were slightly injured and with mild hypothermia. They were then flew by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
