The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said it has decided to move all its activities, including the celebration of Environment Month this June, online in light of the continuing threat by the deadly coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu said on Saturday (May 30) that the month-long celebration will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the importance of a cleaner environment. He added that the coronavirus restrictions resulted in some positive environmental changes.
“The stay-at-home orders and other restrictions have somehow allowed our environment to quietly return to its natural pristine state, and we hope these positive environmental changes will form part of the new normal,” Cimatu said.
DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau lined up a number of activities for the 32nd Philippine Environment Month with the theme “Protect Nature. Sustain our Nature. #HealNature4OurFuture.”
The World Environment Day is observed on June 5. DENR will provide online learning games like trivia quizzes, crossword puzzles, word searchers, and bingo. An online storytelling for kids is scheduled on June 12, which will feature stories on environmental awareness and the protection of nature.
