Stormy the pit bull has been described as the perfect family dog by volunteers at the Eleventh Hour Rescue, a rehabilitation and rescue center in New Jersey.
He is good with kids, with other dogs and even cats! He is gentle and affectionate. Though he is a perfect companion animal, his previous owners still dumped him at the shelter, because the family are expecting a fifth baby.
“He spent all of his life with a family with four children, two [other] dogs – one small, one big – and a cat,” Alana Guerrini, a volunteer and foster carer at the rescue center, told The Dodo. “Then the woman got pregnant and had her fifth baby, and decided that he was too much.”
Stormy, who was previously called Freshy by his previous family, was brokenhearted when he was left first at a shelter in Brooklyn.
“You could see the fear and terror in his eyes in that picture [at the shelter], and you could see how brokenhearted he was,” Guerrini said. “I looked at that face, and it absolutely crushed me.”
Guerrini spotted Stormy’s profile online and hurried to get him out of the shelter, because he was scheduled to be euthanized on that same day.
“He was due to be put down at 5 o’clock, and it was 4:58 or 4:59 when we got the word that ‘We’ll let you take him, and he’s officially yours and off of death row,’” Guerrini shared.
Guerrini and her 16-year old son picked up Stormy and took him to their New Jersey home, where Stormy will be fostered until someone decided to get him and give him his fur-ever home.
“He jumped into my car with no problems,” Guerrini said. “My son had gotten into the passenger seat, and he [Storymy] just climbed up onto my son’s lap, and you could see that with every little wiggle and face kiss that he was thanking him because he knew that he was going to live. He’s an angel.”
Guerrini added that it was very obvious that Stormy had a family before. When Stormy plays with her son, Stormy would not even scratch him. Stormy was also very attentive when her son was not feeling well.
“He stayed in the room with him all day and nuzzled with him,” she said. “And when my son got up, he was just following hin around. He just wants to interact with people and be loved.”
Stormy is a two-year old pit bull. If you decided to give this pit bull a chance, you may contact Eleventh Hour Rescue.
