Staff at the Shendiaoshan Wildlife Park in Rongcheng City in China were stunned to find four Bengal tiger cubs abandoned at the park last May 18.
The workers believe the cubs’ mother abandoned them after birth. The staff wasted no time and took over the role and cared for the cubs, so they could survive the crucial time of their lives.
“After the four cubs were born, the mother tiger went away without caring at all. The baby tigers were just shaking, with their cries getting weaker and weaker. We saw it and therefore decided to bring them out for artificial feeding,” Meng Qingjia, a veterinarian at the park, told Reuters in an interview.
Apparently, one of the tiger cubs is a very rare white tiger. There is only one in 10,000 Bengal tigers that turn out to be white.
“White tigers are quite rare in the Bengal tiger population. It’s not albinism but a result of genetic mutations,” Meng said.
The veterinarian and zookeepers are feeding the cubs goats milk to help them grow, along with a carefully programmed diet to give them the right amount o probiotics and digestive enzymes.
The cubs are now in good health and are already starting to walk, but they need one more month before the public could meet them.
