In the course of time people have been staying at home, almost everyone has discovered and cultivated various pursuits old and new. The lockdown gave birth to many things, including the virtual stage where various forms of learning and entertainment are being hosted almost every day.
Frisky Pawtraits, a pet photography company, was among those who caught the bug. It launched a virtual photography series for fur parents, created engagement during a rather bleak period, and all for a good cause.
The #PetcastSeries was launched by Jaycee Pilapil, a pet photographer, animal welfare advocate, and the owner and founder of Frisky Pawtraits. In its premiere episode, Jaycee tackled The Basics of Mobile Pet Photography to encourage fur parents everywhere to make the most out of their time spent at home.
“The idea to launch a series streamed out of Frisky Pawtraits’ Facebook page came after I spent a ton of time taking photos of my own cats amid the community quarantine. This is mostly what I do anyway when I have time in my hands,” Jaycee shared when asked how the #PetcastSeries came about. “We’ve all got time, and I want to encourage fur parents to make the most out of it, bond with our pets, and learn a new skill in the process. Teaching and practicing pet photography have always been a passion of mine, and whenever I can, I really wanted to share what I know to people. Taking photos of our own pets is not only a fun experience, it is also therapeutic.” With the entire nation on community quarantine, mobility restricted, and pet events that usually happen in the summer postponed- there is no better time to learn mobile pet photography indeed.
Those who attended the subsequent episode learned about Editing Pet Photos Using Mobile Apps such as Snapseed and Photoshop Express. Frisky Pawtraits also launched its e-book:“A Quick Guide to Indoor Pet Photography” which serves as a supplemental guide for those who are just taking the plunge on taking their pet photos to the next level.
The #PetcastSeries is a virtual series streaming topics of interest once a month to the pet community, specifically on pet photography. Jaycee will break down basic concepts in photography such as composition techniques, framing, and lighting in the succeeding episodes. Followers of Frisky Pawtraits should definitely watch out for their space as they launch photo critique sessions to help first timers in photography learn more each time.
With responsible animal companionship gaining more traction and awareness, Frisky Pawtraits stirs the conversation beyond taking beautiful photos.
“What we want to create here are not just pictures of our pets. We are in the industry of creating memories – the warm and fuzzy kind. It will be very hard for any photographer to achieve that without the genuine bond between the fur parent and their pets,” Jaycee narrates. “Taking photos that tell a story often goes through a process. Contrary to what people think, it doesn’t just happen. The first step is always forming that bond – and this is what I’ve been trying to tell my clients all this time.”
The #PetcastSeries episodes are not just learning sessions, it is also a fund raiser, and an avenue to bring together like-minded people within the pet community. No long lines, no driving through heavy traffic, no-frills – just good conversations, striking photos, and exciting prizes all in one picture-perfect Saturday afternoon.
