Fishermen caught a giant fish in Eastern Samar province hours after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit Masbate province and some parts of Eastern Visayas on Tuesday morning.
The giant fish is called “Opah” is a deep-water specie found in around 500-meter depth of the sea, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources regional director Juan Albalajedo. It was caught in Santa Monica village in Tubababo Island, Oras town in Eastern Samar.
Opah (Lampris guttatus) is the first known warm-bloodied fish, which makes them a high-performance predator.
Albaladejo said the earthquake might have spooked the fish and forced it swim on the shallow portion of the waters, and enabled fishermen to catch it.
