We love our animal companions like family — that’s a fact. And as their guardians, we need to be prepared financially in case something happens.
What is pet insurance?
One way to protect our animal companions is by getting pet insurance. Just like regular insurance, pet insurance covers medical expenses for when a companion animal goes to the vet.
Pet insurance is relatively new in the Philippines. As there are several options, it is important to look for the best one, as well as make sure it doesn’t cramp one’s budget.
Affordable protection
Malayan Insurance Co. partnered with Cebuana Lhuillier to introduce Pet Insurance, a non-life insurance policy for Dog parents that can fit most budgets.
This partnership has been described by Marketing Communications Deputy Head Anthony Louis Guanzon as one that can “provide accessible and affordable protection for you and your animal companion.”
Guanzon hopes that Pet Insurance can provide not only security, but also peace of mind.
Basic versus premium
There are two types of insurance plans Dog parents can choose: Pet Insurance Basic and Pet Insurance Premium. Basic costs P1,000 and includes medical reimbursement worth P10,000, burial assistance of P5,000, owner’s liability of P10,000 and owner’s accident cover worth P10,000.
Premium, meanwhile, costs P2,400 and comes with medical reimbursement worth P17,500, burial assistance of P5,000, owner’s liability of P17,500, and owner’s personal accident cover worth PhP25,000.
