We see them every day when we go outside, scavenging for food, looking a little too thin, and sleeping on the streets.
We’re talking about street animals, of course, including Dogs and Cats.
While most households accept pets as part of their family, homeless animals remain a problem here in the Philippines. And there’s only so much the shelters and animal welfare organizations can do to mitigate this problem, especially with their limited budget. That’s why it’s highly encouraged to adopt from shelters rather than buy an animal companion.
CHECK OUT THESE ANIMALS UP FOR ADOPTION!
In observance of International Homeless Animals’ Day, we at Animal Scene are happy to share with you these Dogs and Cats who are sure to add joy to your home.

DANSIN (from Strays Worth Saving)
Dansin was first found tied to a rusty old pipe with a wound around her eyes.
When a rescuer from Strays Worth Saving tried looking for her in the rain, she found out that she was no longer tied to the pipe but sleeping under a vehicle.
Dansin’s previous guardians explained that her eye wound was from a Dog fight and it got infected. Due to unfortunate circumstances faced by the previous owners, Dansin was surrendered to the organization.
Dansin was then brought to a vet clinic for testing and treatment of her eye wound. Now, Dansin is living her best life and is looking for a place to call her new home.

BONNIE (from Pawssion Project)
Bonnie was rescued at a city Dog pound by Pawssion Project.
They had a hard time rescuing her because she was so afraid that she could not trust anyone. It took some time to get her out of her crate, but as soon as Bonnie felt that she was safe with the rescuers, she seemed to smile in relief.
Bonnie is currently at Pawssion Project’s Bacolod shelter, roaming freely and waiting for a family to adopt her.

WHISKEY (from Hound Haven)
Whiskey was originally surrendered to Pawssion Project in Bulacan because his caretaker could no longer care for him. He was moved to Hound Haven in 2024.
Despite losing his back paws in an accident when he was young, he is a very active Dog who doesn’t let his disability hinder him from enjoying life.

ESTHER (from Philippine Animal Welfare Society)
Esther was rescued from a drainage canal during one of PAWS’ monthly kapon outreach programs. Her name was inspired by the place she was rescued from (“estero”).
Since then, Esther has become a regal Cat who loves people… and all the attention they give. She’s the first to greet the shelter’s visitors. She also meows at anyone near her, asking them to sit down so that she could sit on their laps.

PANGEE (from Pawssion Project)
Pangee is a Cat who grew up in the streets of Las Piñas, so he can be a little tough, especially to other Cats.
When it comes to humans, though, he is a total sweetheart. When he arrived at the shelter, he didn’t hide or get angry. Pangee loves being with humans. He meows a lot to get attention, and he’s happy to chill beside any willing person.
He lives for attention, so if you’re planning to adopt him, it’s best if he goes solo.

MANDA (from Ampon Alaga/PETA Asia)
Manda is a sweet and affectionate Cat who will follow people around the house. She loves to cuddle and bask in everyone’s attention. She is described as a chill but clingy lap Cat.
Manda is not a Puspin. She needs someone who understands her needs and can provide the care she deserves. If you’re that someone, consider giving Manda a new home.
If you think you can give these lovely animals a place to call home, contact the shelters above for more information.
DID YOU KNOW?
The International Society for Animal Rights introduced Homeless Animals Day to raise awareness of pet overpopulation. They have since carried out meaningful work, including saving the lives of millions of animals and helping raise money for animal shelters.
The day is commemorated on the third Saturday of August every year.
