A husky has died after allegedly being deprived of oxygen on board an 11-hour flight with Air France-KLM from Amsterdam to Los Angeles, according to report by the Daily Mail.
TMZ first reported the incident on Wednesday, stating that unnamed sources from the airline company confirmed the death of a dog, who was discovered on Tuesday, dead inside the plane’s cargo.
The animal’s owner went to pick her dog at the LAX Airport warehouse after the flight landed in Los Angeles at 12:35am, when unfortunately, she found her dog’s lifeless body.
According to their sources, the dog was improperly loaded onto the aircraft and lost oxygen during the nonstop flight that lasted 10 hours and 45 minutes.
Passengers are allowed to keep an animal companion that weighs no more than 17lbs in the cabin, as long as the pet is at least 10 weeks old and has all the required and necessary vaccines, according to Air France’s policy. Cats and dogs that weight between 17lbs and 165.3lbs must travel in the cargo hold and must be confined in a hard plastic or fiberglass containers fastened by bolts and International Air Transport Association (IATA) approved, reported Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, those who travel by business class on intercontinental flights cannot keep their pets in the cabin, no matter their size.
