I started writing for Animal Scene last year for the July-August 2025 issue. As some readers might already know, I love taking photos of our animal companions. It’s my way of celebrating the beauty of their short yet colorful lives and etching those moments into memory; a way for me to share their story and their legacy, making them live on forever.

Easter is all about new beginnings and rebirth, and I wanted to make this Easter extra special by celebrating it with our Bunnies and our team.

I have always wanted to do an Easter photoshoot for the longest time, yet my schedule was always busy. When Animal Scene agreed to my Easter Bunny article pitch, I was so excited.

Fur moms Ayu and Jewel spend a pastel-perfect Easter afternoon hosting a cozy tea party with their furbabies California “Hambun” and his little Bun, San Diego. Joining the party are their cute plushie guests who wouldn’t miss the fun.
Lots of laughs and funny moments. This is a candid photo of Jewel laughing about an Easter joke.
Ayu cuddles Purple Bib Loppy, her plush Bunny with a name that tells you everything you need to know. She’s a Lop Bunny and she has a purple bib. With more than a hundred plushies at home, descriptive naming is officially a survival skill. And yes, that purple ribbon is adorable – it was a sweet gift from a friend.

PREPARATIONS

I started by planning a cute Easter-themed setup last December. I already had an Easter basket ready from years ago, along with a lot of other Easter-adjacent accessories and props like flowers, a tea set, some vines, and fake leaves, among other things that I’ve saved up.

What I didn’t have were eggs. No Easter photoshoot would be complete without such colorful eggs. I searched for the cutest Easter eggs online and ordered them. When they arrived, I planned out the set for our shoot.

At first, I wanted to do a photoshoot in an actual park where Bunnies were allowed. However, bringing four Bunnies to an outdoor location would be a bit of a problem, logistics-wise, so I opted to have the photoshoot done at our place.

GARDEN SHOOT

We did the photoshoot in our rooftop garden.

For the set, we assembled a yellow checkered gingham mat for the picnic. I added some tulle and satin fabric to add texture to the location.

Jewel, a fur mom and my assistant set designer, helped me set up the Bunny plushies, the eggs, some flowers and vines, the tea set, and of course, our Easter basket. We also rearranged some potted plants in the rooftop garden as additional backdrops.

It was a two-day photoshoot.

STARTING WITH HAMBUN

On the first day, we started with the solo photos of the Bunnies.

Most, if not all, of our animal companions are used to being photographed. They are accustomed to the environment of strong lights and flashes. They are comfortable with the presence of other people and animals.

All of them are very sweet and kind, not giving problems to anyone.

We started our photoshoot with our handsome and photogenic Hambun (his real name is California), the sweetest and biggest Bunny of the house. He is a huge Lionhead Rabbit, with a thick mane and the face of a teddy bear. He loves treats, brushes, belly rubs, and nibbling on slippers — well, when he was young. He’s more mature now and has thankfully retired from slipper nibbling.

Weighing about 2.8 kilograms, Hambun had so much fun posing for his photos. He was the most amicable of them all; instead of running away during the shoot, he confidently chose his own spots beside the Easter basket. He tried to get inside the basket but he couldn’t fit so he settled beside it instead.

Hambun was originally Jewel’s Bunny, lovingly obtained with her talent fee from a photoshoot. Unfortunately, Hambun could not stay at their home; luckily, he could stay nearby at our place instead.

Jewel now visits Hambun regularly and “pays for child support” by helping clean and care for Hambun and his family. Today, Hambun is lucky enough to have two devoted fur moms who love him deeply and make sure he is always well cared for.

Hambun shows off his cool aura as he relaxes during his Easter photoshoot. He’s handsome, and he knows it!

PICTURES WITH HOKKAIDO

Next, we did a photoshoot of our sweet Holland Lop, Hokkaido, who we affectionately call “Mommy Bunny.”

She is our most beautiful Rabbit.

We’ve always wanted Lop Bunnies. They have floppy ears that hang down on either side of round, squished-looking faces. They also have a brachycephalic (shortened) skull and a naturally frowning mouth shape, which makes them look grumpy, sad, and uninterested all the time.

Hokkaido is a very vocal Rabbit, which is rare, and she made happy noises while we were taking her photos. She loves being held. She also enjoyed having her photos taken inside the Easter basket.

OVER TO OKINAWA

After that, we took photos of Okinawa, Hokkaido’s hyperactive brother. He kept running away and removing his Easter hat. He eventually got tired of running and relaxed in the middle of the picnic mat.

We were also able to take photos of him and his sister together inside the picnic basket.

Hambun, Hokkaido, and Okinawa are our three adult Bunnies. The rest of our Bunnies are the children of Hambun, Tokyo, and Hokkaido.

Our little rascal Okinawa is taking a well-deserved rest after the photoshoot.

HUMANS NEXT

A few days after the Bunny photoshoot, it was finally time for the fur moms.

I styled my fiancée Ayu and my best friend Jewel, both devoted fur moms, in Bunny-printed JSKs with soft pastel color palettes. I added bunny-themed accessories gifted by our friends and even did their hair and makeup.

The whole scene felt like something out of a fairytale book. I wanted everything to feel light, playful, and warm, just like Easter itself.

I then handed them their baby Buns to pose with, along with our cute Bunny plushies. The photoshoot was fast and chill and we got lots of nice photos. It was a bonding time to remember.

Seeing the most important souls in my life in one frame just gives me a sense of wanton happiness; a happiness that I want everyone to feel and see, the beauty of being in love and the warm feeling of being loved back. Capturing these candid moments in time is the reason why I write and take photographs.

BUNNY FRIENDS AND THEIR EASTER ESCAPADES

We asked our Bunny friends about their Easter plans and what they were up to this egg-citing time of year!

Bunny superstar and fashion darling Pocholo also had his very own Easter Bunny photoshoot! He also celebrated Easter with his other Bunbun friends, hosting events and parties!

Bunny Siblings Boss Happy and Sir Pluto chose a calmer approach for Easter, opting to relax and travel with their fur parents. They spent their holiday out of town, taking in beautiful sights and enjoying a slower pace.

It’s always heartwarming to see so many fluffy friends celebrating the season together. Bunny joy truly brings smiles to everyone’s faces!
