I believe some Dogs are scientific evidence to prove it. A Dog’s “paranormal” behavior is often due to their natural heightened senses. Dog noses have 300 million olfactory receptors, while humans have only 5 million. So, if a stranger feels aggression, Dogs might smell body chemicals like adrenaline and cortisol, making them more protective of their humans.

Additionally, Dogs’ hearing can reach frequencies higher than humans. So, if a prowler tries to enter your home, a Dog may bark aggressively at the door, not because they’re psychic, but because of their biological composition — in this case, their hearing.

A POODLE AND A SPIRIT

Just as some people are psychic, I believe some Dogs are, too. I have no evidence; I’m speaking from experience.

I’m sensitive. There was one time when I was awakened by someone holding my hand and whispering kindly in my ear. It was only the next day when I learned that the person had died at the exact time I had been previously awakened.

After my grandmother died, my room was filled with the scent of the flowers in her wake. I asked others if they had similar experiences, and most said no. It was a special gift.

One night, I was sitting with a friend in the living room of our family home. Our poodle Chanda was on the floor in front of us. All of a sudden, she started barking.

My friend pointed out that Chanda was barking at an invisible spirit. Suddenly, Chanda drew back and yelped, as if she was hit in the face.

It was something that would have happened had my grandmother still been alive. During the Japanese occupation, she used to ride a horse bareback with a rifle in her hand. A Dog would not have fazed her.

Then, my friend and I followed Chanda’s eyes as she seemed to be looking at something moving to the dining room where my mom and uncles were.

A SUPERNATURAL VISIT FROM MOM

When my mother was dying from a long illness, I cried all day wherever I was – in a mall, at the office, at home, among friends. Then, someone gave me an Aspin named Winnie-churchill — nicknamed Winnie — and everything changed. She made me very happy, and my family was relieved to see that I was happy again.

When Mom died, she must have learned how Winnie helped me deal with her passing. One day, it seemed like someone was sitting at the foot of my bed, and Winnie was looking in that direction. Winnie behaved as if she was looking at someone holding a treat.

I recognized what would have been my Mom’s movements by how Winnie’s eyes moved around. And, as if Mom threw a treat in the air, Winnie followed it with her gaze until it seemingly fell to the floor — and she proceeded to lick at it.

This happened several more times, and the treat seemed to always fall at the exact same place. The whole experience lasted 30 minutes.

I decided to bring my other Dog, Mocha Barney, into the room to see her reaction. However, Mocha just smelled the place where the invisible treats seemed to have fallen and walked on. Mocha isn’t a psychic Dog.

Based on how Winnie continued to stare at the air, my mother must have stayed a little while more before she finally left.

GIVING IT BACK

Some call it a psychic ability, but I call it a gift. I realize now that I’m very fortunate because I understand something unknown to many others.

This sensitivity has been with me since I was a child. Eventually, I decided to give my gift to God because He’s the highest power.

I don’t miss it, but I’m glad I experienced it. Life has been very kind to me since then.
