Local organizations are helping families feed their pets as many cities were put under lockdowns or community quarantines due to the coronavirus pandemic, limiting them from going out to buy food and medicine for their animal companions.
The Kentucky Humane Society gave families dog and cat food for a variety of breeds for the time being. Karen Koenig, vice president of the animal welfare organization with the Humane Society, told WAVE 3 News that they are making sure every household gets the help they need.
“We will be providing food as long as supplies last,” she told WAVE 3 News. “We understand there is going to be a great need. If we run out, we will work our hardest to refill.”
The Floyd County Animal Rescue, another animal rescue organization, is also helping people feed their animals during these trying times.
