He was his best friend. So he sat there, patiently waiting for his owner, who would never return.

NorthStar Pet Rescue, an animal rescue located at Boston, New Jersey, recently posted a photo of Moose the dog, who was sitting very still by his deceased owner’s hospital dead, not knowing it would never come back.

“Moose sat patiently next to his dad’s hospital bed, waiting for him to return, not knowing that ‘Dad’ had passed away. Moose has now been returned to our friends at Eleventh Hour Rescue and he’s taking the loss of his dad pretty hard,” NorthStar Pet Rescue wrote as the caption in the photo they posted.

NorthStar Pet Rescue is currently working with Eleventh Hour Rescue, another animal rescue center, to find Moose a new home.

Eleventh Hour Rescue said that applications to be Moose’s new home poured in as they received several request to adopt the three-year-old Labrador mix after the post went viral.

“Thanks to the power of social media, Moose has received several applications and we are hopeful he will find a forever home soon!” the post updated. “Thank you for caring and sharing everyone!”

Luckily, less than a month after his owner died, Moose has finally found a home!
