The world is experiencing a lot of changes – most of it, not the good news we are all expecting. Climate change and pollution continues and warming of seas had endangered the lives of several animals.

Based from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there are now 41,415 animals on the ‘red list’, and about 16,306 of them are classified endangered or threatened with extinction.

Tim Flach, a British photographer, captured as many photographs as he can of the endangered species before they even become extinct.

He spent two years working on the project and titled it “Endangered.”

1. Philippine Eagle

The Philippine Eagle Foundation noted that there is rougly 400 pairs of Philippine eagles left in the wild.

2. Iberian Lynx

Iberian Lynx, a wild cat species that is native to the Iberian Peninsula, was close to extinction years before. However, thanks to conservation efforts, their population now grew to 404 from 100 in 2002, according to a report by the World Wildlife Fund.

3. Ring-Tailed Lemur

According to thinkinghumanity.com, there are only 2,000 ring-tailed lemurs left in the wild as of 2017, because of poaching, hunting, and habitat loss.

4. Saiga

Saiga had a mass die-off in 2010 in Kazakhstan, when 12,000 of them died suddenly due to unknown causes. They are currently known as one of the most critically endangered species in the world.

5. Shoebill

It is estimated that there are only 5,000 to 8,000 left of Shoebills in the world.

6. Proboscis Monkey

Most monkeys are threatened by habitat loss because of oil plantations, and illegal logging – one of those monkey species mostly affected is the proboscis monkey. This large-nosed monkey saw a 50 percent decrease in population over the past decades and is now threatened with extinction.

7. White-bellied pangolin

Endemic to the Philippines, pangolins are widely threatened by poachers, hunting them for their meat and scales to be used in traditional medicine. Their numbers are not yet known, but experts believe they are closer to extinction than we may actually think.
