The Pesquet’s parrot recently gained lots of attention on social media because of its very interesting feature, a black and red plumage that gives it a vulture-like and Dracula-inspired appearance.

It is a very large bird with approximately 46cm in length and about 680g to 800g in weight. Despite its “Dracula” name, the parrot feeds most exclusively on figs.

They have peculiar noises that could be described as rasping and growling. Because of their bright color, Pesquet’s parrots have become a target for poachers in recent years. Their population has continued to decrease, almost nearing the “vulnerable” list in the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List.
