A concerned citizen found the five-month old possum alone on the side of the road, likely to have fallen off her mother’s back.

The Australian possum has a golden fur color, which gave him the name Pikachu. In a report by The Age, the specific mutation is a result of low levels of melanin. Instead of it being a brown fur, it turned gold.

Unfortunately, Pikachu will not be released back into the wild, because her golden fur will attract predators easily.

Though it is very rare to find a possum like Pikachu, he is not the only golden possum in the area.

“[There are] little pockets of them in Victoria and we try to keep their location secret to keep them safe,” Caroline Dazey from Wildlife Victoria told The Age.
