It is not always easy for families to adopt animal companions. There are successful ones, and there are bad ones that only lead to heartache for both parties. Luckily, this one family had an easy journey welcoming a new addition to their family.

Kristin Leigh Rhynehart, a mom who lives with her family in Raleigh, New Jersey, adopted a dog named Raven about ten years ago. Raven had made it easy for Rhynehart as she never had any problem with him, because he was very loyal and lovable.

Only the other day, Kristin thought she might have lost her longtime companion when she could not find him anywhere in the house. She panicked after checking everywhere – living room, kitchen, and all of Raven’s favorite spots, only to not find her anywhere.

She thought she might have left the gate open and Raven could have wandered off.

Before she could go searching further, Kristin decided to check in on her daughter, Addison, who had been napping. When she opened the door to the room, Kristin was surprised that Raven snuggled with her daughter under the covers, apparently resting with Addison.

As she entered the room, Raven jumped into attention and goes back to sleep when he realized it was just Kristin.

“That moment you can’t find your dog and you even go outside looking for him… only to walk in the house and find him snuggled up in bed next to your todder,” Kristin said. “Ten years ago, I left at a rescue with this little guy and I often wonder… who rescued who? I gave him a home, but he game me so, so much more.”
