Earlier this year, many animals – both strays and companions – were left to fend for themselves as the Taal volcano erupted. Through the efforts of many animal welfare organizations, most of them have been rescued and found their new fur-ever homes.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia said that more than 100 animals they’ve rescued from the devastating event last January have now been adopted.
“Throughout the lockdown in Metro Manila, our team processed hundreds of Taal adoptions and foster applications, and I’m so pleased to announce that over 100 dogs and cats we rescued have now been adopted,” Nirali Shah from PETA Asia, said in a statement.
Here are some of the heartwarming stories of the animals they’ve rescued.
This is Pedro. He was found the PETA’s rescue team entangled in a vine. From being dehydrates, starving, and suffering from gangrene, Pedro is now enjoying unlimited cuddles with his new family. “Although he lost a leg because of the ordeal, it doesn’t stop him from enjoying his life to the fullest.”
On the other hand, here is Regan. When PETA found him more than a week after the eruption, he had burned paws and ears. Now, he has been adopted into a loving family and loves spending hours every day playing with a ball on a string. He also loves to play with his doggo “brother,” Jonald, who was also rescued from Taal.
“Nothing—not even a global pandemic—will stop our rescue team from helping animals in need. Its members are some of the true heroes of 2020,” PETA added.
