Five parrots at a wildlife park have been moved into different colonies after they started swearing the visitors.
The African Grey parrots were adopted by Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in Friskney back in August and was placed in quarantine together. However, when they were moved to the main outdoor aviaries, the birds started to swear.
Keeper Jess Newton said they thought the birds would eventually stop the habit of swearing once they were put outside, but it did not go as planned.
“With the five, one would swear and another would laugh and that would carry on,” said Park Chief Executive Steve Nichols, noting that the parrots say bad words “to trigger reaction or a response,” so when people look shocked or laugh, the birds would be encouraged to continue swearing.
“Some visitors found it funny, but with kids visiting at weekends, we decided to move them,” Nichols told BBC in an interview. “I’m hoping they learn different words within colonies – but if they teach the others bad language and I end up with 250 swearing birds, I don’t know what we’ll do.”
