A unique gravestone in a shape of a dog has been gaining a lot of attention — and sticks these last few months.
A dog named Rex has a beautiful headstone made just for him about 100 years ago at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, which is very famous resting place for musicians and artists such as Leonard Bernstein, Charles Ebbets, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
For years, visitors of the cemetery have been placing sticks on Rex’s headstone to pay their respect, and ever since the coronavirus started, more and more people have been dropping sticks that his collection has grown quite notably.
“I think people like to believe that there is a dog interred there and there very well might be. But it’s hard to say,” Stacy Locke, Communications Manager at Green-Wood Cemetery, told My Modern Met. “It’s right under a tree and there are lots of sticks around. People will drop a stick across his little paws. Someone also left a picture of a dog there once, maybe their little pet who passed away, as to say, ‘Rex, look after my little one.’”
