Last week, pet shops and animal shelters were cleared of their animals as British people adopted them as a lockdown in the city loomed due to the novel coronavirus epidemic.
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home reported that they have rehomed more than the double amount of dogs and cats they did the same time last year, while Pets at Home claimed they are already running low on hamsters.
128 dogs and 98 cats have found their new fur-ever homes. Even one of the shelter’s longest remaining dog – 110 days in a kennel to be exact – Tulip, has also been adopted into a new loving home.
“We want to thanks all these new owners for thinking of [rescuing] pets at such as challenging time,” Rob Young, Battersea’s head of operations, told The Telegraph.
