Earlier this month, a kitten by the name of Pickles was rescued after her front left paw was blown off by a firecracker in Pittsburgh, Pennyslavania.
It was on July 4 when a Good Samaritan found the poor kitty and brought her to the city’s Humane Animal Rescue.
“There wasn’t really any paw left. What was still there was barely hanging on by the rubber bands. Her bone was exposed and she was severely dehydrated,” Jamie Wilson, the center’s medical director, said according to Metro UK.
With the length of her injury, Pickles’ limb had to be amputated entirely. Luckily, the best veterinarians were looking out for her, thus the successful procedure.
As Pickles recovers, she will soon be put up for adoption when veterinarians and caretakers deem her ready.
“We feel so relieved knowing that she is in good hand, and that we played a part in saving her life. We wish we could help more animals in need,” friends Kenny and Kellie, who found Pickles, said in a statement.
Police are now continuing investigation and asks anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Meanwhile the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the person responsible for Pickles’ injuries.
