Germany’s agricultural minister Julia Klöckner is proposing a new legislation ordering humans to walk their dogs at least twice a day for an hour or more.
Klöckner’s proposed legislation also includes forbidding owners from leaving their companion animals alone at home all day or leaving them tied outside the house for long periods of time. Through this, dog breeders are also limited to only a number of dogs they can keep, and the minimum and maximum temperatures for their facilities.
“Pets are not cuddly toys – and their needs have to be considered,” Klöckner said in an announcement earlier this week, according to German news outlet Deutsche Welle. Klöckner added that her proposal is in conjunction with their discovery based on new scientific research about dogs’ needs.
