A rescue dog became a hero after he called for help after his 88-year-old owner fell and could not get back up in their home in California, USA.
Gwendola Johnson was walking in their home when she tripped on her side porch and fell. She could not get back up when she saw trash collector Kirk White walking up her driveway to empty her garbage bins, according to a report by CW-affiliate KTLA.
She then called for her dog Sandy, and told him to approach White. “When I saw him, I said to Sandy, ‘You go get him,’ so he did,” she said.
Sandy rushed to White and began barking at him. White eventually realized something was amiss, because Johnson was not in her usual spot when he passes by for the trash.
“He was barking. It wasn’t aggressive in any way,” White said. “It was kind of very much like ‘Hey, I have something to show you – come follow me.”
Security footage showed White following Sandy to the side of the house, where he saw Johnson lying on the ground. He helped Johnson get back on her feet, and made sure she did not sustain any injuries.
“Just helping another human, that’s what we’re supposed to do,” White said, noting that he is now considering housing a companion animal after the incident. He said people “can learn something from animals.”
