Get fascinated and meet the Cats and Dogs through this one-of-a-kind event.
Fourteen years ago, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) started Scaredy Cats and Dogs to raise funds for the shelter animals. It also became a venue to raise awareness about the organization’s advocacy of spaying and neutering and adopting instead of buying from pet stores and breeders.
Several titles were at stake, and the creative costumes made it hard for celebrity judges Agot Isidro, Marc Nelson, Ruby Rodriguez, and Kathy Moran to come up with their winners. In the end, Cha-Cha, who came as a Pet Rescue Ambulance, was declared the grand winner.
The event also paved way for animals from other shelters to get adopted. The Mandaluyong Animal Shelter adoptables and volunteers came with their own rendition of the Hagibis song “Katawan,” which was revised to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets and to adopt from shelters instead of buying from pet shops and breeders. The group was also declared this year’s Canine Midnight Society awardee for being the best dog group in costume. The Sunday Parkday Gang were declared the Feline Midnight Society or the Best Cat Group in Costume, with their cats representing local vegetables from the song “Bahay Kubo.”
Pet owners and passersby lined up to take selfies with the 501st Legion, which attended the event to formally announce their partnership with the PAWS Doctor Dogs program; they also came in Star Wars costumes. At the event, which was hosted by Charms Espina, Eri Neeman, and Show Suzuki, The Mental Assassin, Justine Pinon, amazed the audience with his mind reading talent.
