A distraught dog owner has urged an appeal after her miniature Chihuahua was snatched by a seagull in their house in Paignton, Devon on Sunday afternoon.
Becca Hill said her four-year-old dog Gizmo was in the back garden of their house, when she saw a seagull swooped down and flew away with her pooch in its beak. Her partner also witnessed the horrifying incident, according to Devon Live reports.
“My partner was in the garden putting the washing out at the time and suddenly he saw it swoop down. It carried Gizmo a fair way as we couldn’t see him anymore. I have no idea if he was dropped or where he is now,” Hill said.
She has already enlisted the help of other people in a bid to track down her pet, who is still missing. The 24-year-old pet owner is hopeful that netizens could help her reunite with Gizmo.
There have been other incidents of birds attacking small dogs. In May 2015, another pet owner from Devon watched in horror as her Chihuahua puppy was killed by a flock of seagulls.
“This must be extremely upsetting for the dog’s owner. Fortunately these types of incidents are very rare and not typical gull behavior,” a spokesman from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) said.
